Five Must Do Things In Grand Prairie This May

1. Kentucky Derby Day at Lone Star Park: May 6

The first live Lone Star Park race will begin at 1:35 p.m. and the simulcast of the Kentucky Derby, live from Churchill Downs, will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. Lone Star Park will host the Kentucky Derby Best Hat Contest, with celebrity judges, for a chance to win multiple prizes! One (1) winner in each of our categories, “Most Stylish” and “Most Creative”, will receive $500 with an additional three (3) winners receiving “A Day At The Races” package for honorable mention. Judging begins promptly at 3 p.m. in our Courtyard of Champions!

2. A Walk With Patsy Cline at Uptown Theater: May 13

Julie Johnson chronicles the life story of Patsy Cline, whose legacy survives her as all-time legend and pioneer of country music. This musical blends theater and music into a magical evening that all audiences can enjoy. Catch the show at 8 p.m. at the historic 1950’s Uptown Theater in downtown Grand Prairie.

3. Texas AirHogs Opening Day: May 18

The Ballpark at Grand Prairie, located between Lone Star Park and Verizon Theatre, features the finest minor league baseball, a 17,000 square-foot Wide World of Parks Kids Zone, restaurant/sports bar, cigar bar and swimming pool. The Texas AirHogs will host 50 home games, May-September as part of the American Association of Professional Baseball. Opening day the AirHogs will play the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 7:05 p.m.

4. Traders Village & 95.9 The Ranch Country Concert Series

This is the first of the three country concerts this year at Traders Village. Traders Village is excited to announce Austin Allsup, from NBC’s “The Voice” will be the featured performer. Opening for Allsup will be Andrew Sevener. Along with the concert, Traders Village offers the best turkey legs, drinks, more than 10 carnival rides and over 1000 vendors. If you can’t find it at Traders Village, you don’t need it!

5. John Legend at Verizon Theatre: May 22

Verizon Theatre is a 6,350-seat live performance hall, which hosts sell-out crowds to popular concerts, shows and events.  Sing-a-long with John Legend this May at 7:30 p.m. Grab your tickets.
